2nd graders are Structural Engineers and Designing a New Washington Monument

Second grade implemented a STEM lesson in honor of President's Day.  Students worked collaboratively in order to create the tallest free-standing tower out of just 5 pieces of paper and 12 inches of tape.  The tower would need to hold up George Washington (a quarter)!  Teams worked to together utilizing the engineering design process in order to develop a plan for their tower and then to test it.

Three teams managed to get George on his pillar and the winning team had their tower standing at 15 inches tall!
